Thornberry Stud

The History

The Thornberry Stud came about in 1979 when we purchased a yearling filly, namely Cwmwyre Samantha. Bought as a companion for a dressage horse we decided that we it might be fun to show her a little bit in hand and as they say the rest is history!

Cwmwyre Samantha

Ardgrange Dihafel x Bayford Just Flea

1978 - 2007

As the foundation of the Thornberry Stud it was with great sadness that this wonderful pony passed away in 2007 at the age of 29. We owe her so much, she gave us an enormous amount of enjoyment and pleasure and as a legacy has left us some wonderful daughters and grand-daughters who now form the basis of the stud.

She was Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh in 1987 and is responsible for the Royal Welsh winners and Champions

Thornberry Royal Gem, Thornberry Demelza, Thornberry Gamekeeper & Thornberry Morwenna

Her line continues in the Stud through her daughters:

Thornberry Morwenna (by Mollegaards Spartacus), Thornberry Love Song (by Aston Love Knot) & Thornberry Samantha (by Eyarth Rio) and her grand daughter Thornberry Catrin (Cwrtycadno Cymro x Thornberry Morwenna)

2011 saw us take up driving with the purchase of Danjo Soladaster or Billy to his friends! We litteraly had a go at everything from showing in Exercise vehicle classeas, road drive, Eventing, Cones, deressage , Trec and even a Treasure Hunt. We had a great season winning around 1,500 performance points and being placed in many of the driving categories including being 2nd overall - not bad for a novice.

October 2011 - Thornberry Brambling found a new loan home - Good luck to the Witko Stud, we shall look forward to seeing all her babies.

September 2011 - It was great to catch up with old friends and new during the South Western WPCA stud Visit, a lovely day and great to show off the ponies to such enthusiasts.
