The History

The Thornberry Stud came about in 1979 when we purchased a yearling filly, namely Cwmwyre Samantha. Bought as a companion for a dressage horse we decided that we it might be fun to show her a little bit in hand and as they say the rest is history!

Cwmwyre Samantha

Ardgrange Dihafel x Bayford Just Flea

1978 - 2007

As the foundation of the Thornberry Stud it was with great sadness that this wonderful pony passed away in 2007 at the age of 29. We owe her so much, she gave us an enormous amount of enjoyment and pleasure and as a legacy has left us some wonderful daughters and grand-daughters who now form the basis of the stud.

She was Supreme Champion at the Royal Welsh in 1987 and is responsible for the Royal Welsh winners and Champions

Thornberry Royal Gem, Thornberry Demelza, Thornberry Gamekeeper & Thornberry Morwenna

Her line continues in the Stud through her daughters:

Thornberry Morwenna (by Mollegaards Spartacus), Thornberry Love Song (by Aston Love Knot) & Thornberry Samantha (by Eyarth Rio) and her grand daughter Thornberry Catrin (Cwrtycadno Cymro x Thornberry Morwenna)

Thornberry Serin

4 Year old Mare

by

Cottrell Red Admiral x Rotherwood Lorrikeet

Serin was broken in 2004 and in her first season under saddle as a 4 year old she has had the most outstanding success including qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show.

In 2005 she only just missed out on qualifying for the Horse of the Year Show standing 2nd twice and 5th 3 times!

She was 2nd in the Brynseion First Ridden final at the Welsh Championship Show

1st & Reserve Champion Micor Demolition Final at the NPS Summer Show

In 2007 Serin qualified for the NPS Micor Demolition Finals, the Welsh National Show and the Royal International.

It is hoped that Serin will return to the ring as a broodmare in years to come.

Prior to being broken Serin had an outstanding youngstock career which included Supreme Champion in hand at the South West Ponies Championship Show 2003 & 2004.South West Ponies Kraiburg In-Hand Championship qualifier 2002 & 2003, 2nd Royal Welsh 2003 & 1st Northleach 2004.  Also National pony Society Kilmanan In hand Championship Qualifier 2004.

Ponies bred at Thornberry continue to be successful both in-hand and under saddle.

We should like to thank all the people that have supported us throughout the years and we look forward to hearing news of ponies that we have both bred and owned.
